New Audio-Video: ‘Magnetising All’ (Wangdu) aspiration chanted by 17th Gyalwang Karmapa

Here is a new video (with audio) of HH 17th Karmapa, Ogyen Trinley Dorje chanting the well-known Wangdu Prayer by Ju Mipham Rinpoche: ‘Great Clouds of Blessings: Supplication that Magnetises All That Appearance-Existence (in Tibetan: Nangsi Wangdu Dupai Sol Deb Jinlab Trin Chen (སྣང་སྲིད་དབང་དུ་སྡུད་པའི་གསོལ་འདེབས་བྱིན་རླབས་སྤྲིན་ཆེན་བཞུགས་སོ། ། ) or Wangdu for short.

In September 2022, the 17th Karmapa requested his followers chant the prayer as much as possible:

“The 12th Gyaltsab Rinpoche said to me the other day that within the Karma Kamtsang there does not seem be much magnetising activity (wang gi trinley). So, in order to increase our magnetising activity, we need to do some kind of ritual. This magnetising supplication is very precious and has a lot of great blessings. So during the break, we will recite it. Afterwards, I request all the monasteries and nunneries to recite it as much as you can. Individuals can also recite it, as much as they can with the idea of spreading the teachings. In particular, the precious teachings of the Karma Kagyu. I also give a brief transmission of this and have also recorded it. So, during the break you can also recite it together with the recording. Before, that, I will also recite it as a transmission.”

The 17th Karmapa has also been playing this recording of his chant during his current online teachings. This is an audio sample of him chanting it, together with a video I made of visualisations of the deities in the prayer, as well as photos of the 17th Karmapa, so that followers can listen, watch and chant along if they wish. I also thought that for lay-followers, such as myself, we could do a count of how many aspirations we collect.  Wouldn’t it be great if we could do one million as a total dedicated to the 17th Karmapa returning to India soon, in particular to Rumtek monastery!

This was composed on the first day of the seventh month of the Earth Hare year (1879) by one named Dhī. Anyone who prays in this way will, without any doubt, accomplish all magnetizing activities exactly according to their wishes. This prayer may be written on red flags and flown in the air, or used in prayer wheels powered by heat or wind. Magala!

Translated by Adele Tomlin, 5th September 2022. Dedicated to the long-life and well-being of HH 17th Karmapa, Ogyen Trinley Dorje and his swift return to India, in particular, to Rumtek Monastery, Sikkim.

  1. Thank you for creating this beautiful video. Since you published your translation of this prayer a few months ago, I have been reciting it every day. I will now add the aspiration to support the 17th Karmapa’s activities and return to his seat in Sikkim. 🙏🏼
