A remarkable journey of a lone Buddhist hero

Known to Tibetans as Guru Rinpoche, the “Precious Guru,” Padmasambhava is celebrated for his role in establishing Buddhism in Tibet.

Follow his journey through forests, places of meditation and the Tibetan landscape, as he meets teachers, kings, courageous women and hostile ministers, and faces several attempts on his life and a horrific smear campaign that led him to cut short his 18 month stay in Tibet, after he had consecrated the first Tibetan monastery, Samye.

Inspiring Lessons and Examples

Padmasambhava’s life-story invites us to consider courage, compassion, wisdom and perseverance.  What does it mean to face fear? How can wisdom help us respond to hostility? What can we learn from people whose lives seem very different from our own?

The “What Happened and Why” and “Pause and Wonder” sections give readers space to explore thought-provoking questions at their own pace.  Colour illustrations bring the people, places and events of the story vividly to life.

“Key Words” sections explain unfamiliar names, terms and Buddhist concepts.

Read it independently, share it as a family, or use it to support discussion in Buddhist centres, libraries and educational settings.
