Today, is the anniversary of the great scholar, practitioner and thinker, Jamyang Khyentse Wangpo (1820-1892). From 2018-2020, I enthusiastically and voluntarily wrote various research articles, translations on or about the first Jamyang Khyentse, and a pilgrimage visit to Sikkim to see the former residence of Jamyang Khyentse Chokyi Lodro. This culminated in my attending the Collected Works transmission and empowerments of the First Jamyang Khyentse from Shechen Rabjam Rinpoche in Siliguri, India in 2020.
In particular, I have also highlighted Jamyang Khyentse’s strong connection with the Karmapas, Chogyur Lingpa and Jamgon Kongtrul Lodro Thaye, the founders of the Tibetan ri-mey movement (a pushback against the prevailing Gelugpa authoritarian sectarianism and suppression of the other main lineages still ongoing during the 19th century).
Chogyur Lingpa (1829-1870) the great treasure-revealer and close friend of Khyentse revealed Padmasambhava’s hidden terma regarding the incarnations of the Karmapas, stating clearly (150 years ago) that the 17th Karmapa would be “one mind” with the Tai Situ Rinpoche, emaho! Yet bizarrely, the current Jamyang Khyentse incarnation’s main student, Ogyen Tobgyal has claimed that the 12th Tai Situpa falsified the letter and lied that 16th Karmapa had given it to him. Not only it seems obliviously ignoring Chogyur Lingpa’s important revelation, but also the sacred connection of the Karmapas with Tai Situpa as well, more on that in the footnote below [1].

Endnotes
[1] Sadly, that precious connection between the Karmapa (a much older lineage) and Jamyang Khyentse lineage (much historicaly shorter) has degenerated significantly with the current incarnation, and various allegations by women that he used them to lure and seduce the 17th Karmapa to engage in activities withthat have caused great shame and denigration of his name and the Karma Kagyu (see here). As well as the extremely gross false accusation by his main student, Ogyen Tobgyel that the 12h Tai Situpa’s 16th Karmapa incarnation letter was fraudulently created by him.
In addition, my Ashoka Grant funding from the Khyentse Foundation for my translation work, abruptly stopped on the basis of one unverified email they got from the monastery connected to a Karma Kagyu Rinpoche I and others have complained about for serious sexual and unethical misconduct (read here). They have yet to confirm that the email was from its named source. Then, despite being initially courted and praised by the Khenytse Vision white female project director, Dolma Gunther (who is the sister of one of the Khyentse lineage tulku’s wife), who told me she was a major fan of my work and website. This enthusiasm swiftly change to one of aversion and hostility, and I was barred from any association with their project to tranlsate his collected works, despite being a published scholar-translator, after she told me that various anonymous sources on the project had labelled me “toxic”. Very Buddhist! Not.
Nonetheless, despite such misconduct towards women and nepotism, we can still enjoy the work and pure connection of the first Jamyang Khyentse Wangpo are some highlights of that work and travel. Enjoy the blessings!
