These days, I (and many others) have observed that the Tibetan Buddhist monastic/tulku life seems to involve a lot of hanging out in hotel rooms, apartments, Dharma centres, layperson cafes and restaurants, often eating murdered animals, taking “hot” selfies on expensive iphones to send to their ‘secret’ girlfriend/boyfriend, and if you are a tulku travel to Europe and N America in the summers, Asia in the winters and the occasional chanting Monlam/puja here and there in return. Heck, even ‘hush money’ payments and jewellery for disgruntled mothers/women seem to be covered if necessary.
It’s a “nice” worldly life, but it is not a monastic or Buddhist life at all. Most laypeople who work long hours and hard for their money cannot pay or have the time for these things, so is that really what Buddha, and kind donors/sponsors intended their money to be used for? Where are they getting so much money from to pay for these things?
No wonder such people when they see Buddhist laypeople like me, who are actually using their time and money for Dharma, want to block, stop, defame and slander me. Then such people wonder why they lost their country, their personal lives are such a mess, and so many women are making complaints about them? What happened to begging for alms, butter tea and tsampa as a simple diet?
Seems like the monastic life is more worldly than a layperson. What should we do about cleaning up and stopping this major degeneration of the Buddhist sangha community? It cannot go on this way, otherwise it will destroy people’s impression of Buddhist teachings, and Buddha Dharma and is of no benefit to suffering sentient beings.
Wisdom arising! See y’all in Ibiza, Spain, France, UK and Italy for some “kyippo tang” Summer holidays! 🤣🤫🙏🤑👙🍕🍦🧁🥳🏖

This is the most accurate description of current state of affairs you can get!
The solution? Abolish tulku system entirely, remove (culturally induced) unconditional worship of lamas and make positions merit based. And stop sending children to monasteries, including those under 20. (I know, this is also societal problem in undeveloped countries too)
Actually, Dzongsar Khyentse Norbu spoke about this problem at least two times. Despite what people think about him, these points are IMHO very valid:

Generally, times have changed and things don’t work as they used to anymore. Monastic path is rapidly declining in modern world, and lay/ngakpa one is much more suitable now. Sure, there are lineages like Drikung Kagyu which perfectly grasp the intent behind vinaya for those that like that path, but non-monastic path is also there for us that can’t or don’t want to follow *intended* monastic lifestyle.
Throughout the history, many Buddhist institutions didn’t survive. If Tibetan monastics continue to behave this way, it will be the end of them too.
Thanks for your comment! Dzongsar Khyentse Norbu? He is very much part of the problem of abuse by tulkus of women, and enables it as well as had a lot to do with the current dire situation of the 17th Karmapa (encouraging non-devoted chinese-speaking women to visit him) and calling (indirectly) the 12th Tai Situpa a fraud and liar! So thanks for the links but a big NO thanks! Please read my articles about him and the Khyentse Foundation enabling of abuse etc. https://dakinitranslations.com/2023/08/09/update-the-khyentse-foundations-shoddy-and-unethical-treatment-of-female-survivor-new-information-regarding-the-unethical-unfair-and-unprofessional-treatment-by-the-khyentse-foundation/
