Today, a letter written by the 17th Gyalwang Karmapa, Ogyen Trinley Dorje (dated 21st December 2024) was published on Facebook, expressing his condolences regarding the passing away of HE Choje Ayang Rinpoche (4th December 2024). I have translated it into English for the benefit of those who follow the 17th Karmapa and/or HE Ayang Rinpoche.
I wrote a brief memoriam for HE Ayang Rinpoche and memories of taking Phowa teachings from him in Bodh Gaya in 2006 here.
Condolences letter from 17th Gyalwang Karmapa, Ogyen Trinley Dorje
“Choje Ayang Rinpoche dedicated his whole life for the purpose of Buddhism and sentient beings. He has constructed new monasteries in India and Nepal, and through primarily teaching meditation on transference of consciousness (Phowa), he has nurtured and led many disciples in both the East and West, making his reputation and influence widely known.
In particular, not only did he have a pure teacher-student samaya with the glorious Gyalwang Karmapa Rangjung Rigpe Dorje, but also I myself had a deep and profound connection with him for many years.
Now, when he passed into the state of benefiting others, a great sadness descended. I offer condolences to Rinpoche’s secret consort and family members, monastic community, and all his connected disciples and followers. I continuously pray that there be no obstacles to his spiritual path, that all his wishes be fully realized, and that his enlightened activities never decline.
Karmapa Orgyen Trinley Dorje, 21st December 2024.”
