Today, for Noble Tārā day, am sharing a video clip from a presentation on White Tārā that I created for Goddess of Healing conference in Glastonbury, UK, which took place last month.
Even though the conference was not about Buddhism, the two female organisers, Katinka and Marion, contacted me and requested I contribute something for it. As the theme was healing. I immediately thought of White Tārā, who is renowned for her healing, compassion, love wise powers and energy:
In this five minute clip from the 25 minute talk, I speak about the colour and symbolism of White Tārā and her mantra. For those who would like to see the full online presentation on White Tārā, please visit the Goddess Web website here.
I recorded it in a hotel room in June 2024, while still recovering from a particularly strong and debilitating bout of flu sickness (during which I literally lost my voice for a couple of weeks), which started while attending the Indonesia empowerments and teachings of 12th Gyaltsab Rinpoche .White Tārā was helpful during that time!
I have received various teachings and empowerments on White Tārā from various Tibetan Buddhist masters in India and Nepal, in particular from the 17th Gyalwang Karmapa, who previously stated publicly that his first intensive retreat was on White Tārā. I have also translated several sadhanas, and written about White Tārā in several research articles such as her connection to the Karmapas, which can be found in the Noble Tārā section of the website here.
While I was in Indonesia a few months ago, I also wrote about and shared photos of the famed Tārā temple in Java, said to have been visited by renowned Indian Buddhist master, Je Atisha, see here, who is said to have appeared and told Atisha that his knowledge of the tantras was trivial, like a horse-hair.
