NEW TRANSLATION: ”Shower of Great Bliss: The Lineage Prayer of Yumka” by Jamyang Khyentse Wangpo

For Dakini Day today, am pleased to announce a new translation of a lineage supplication written by Jamyang Khyentse Wangpo for the Vidyadhara Lineage Holders of the deity/dakini practice of the Great Bliss Queen (Yumka Dechen Gyalmo): Shower of Great Bliss: A Lineage Prayer of Yumka Vidhyadhara (rig ‘dzin yum bka’i brgyud ‘debs bde chen char ‘beb ).  For those who would like a copy of it, please contact me here. I received the empowermenst and transmissions for the Dechen Gyalmo practice at the Jigme Lingpa transmissions at Shechen monastery, Nepal in 2019 and the text by Jamyang Khyentse Wangpo at Siliguri, India 2020 from HE Shechen Rabjam Rinpoche.

Here is the first verse as a taster.  Jamyang Khyentse Wangpo lists the first lineage holders from Samantabhadra, to Vajrasattva and then to Garab Je.

Endowed with six special qualities of the sphere-basis, Samantabadra

Primordial-awareness display of the appearance-basis, Vajrasattva

Guide of the infinite freedom-basis, Garab Je

Please bestow primordial-awareness great bliss!

Garab Dorje

Garab Dorje – first human lineage master of the Dzogchen teachings

Who is Garab Je? It is Garab Dorje of Prahevajra/Pramodavajra/Surativajra (dga’ rab rdo rje).  He is considered to be the first human Dzogchen lineage master. According to some sources, Prahevajra transmitted the teachings to Manjushrimitra, who was regarded as his chief disciple. Padmasambhava is also known to have received the transmission of the Dzogchen tantras directly from Garab Dorje. Upon his death, Prahevajra imparted his last testament to Manjushrimitra. These three precepts, known as the “Three Words that Strike to the Heart of the Essential Point” or Tsig Sum Nèdek (tshig gsum gnad brdeg) are said to summarize the whole of the Dzogchen teachings.

Other lineage prayers

Another lineage prayer to the Great Bliss Queen (that is translated into English), composed by by Dodrupchen Jikme Trinle Özer,  which refers to Jamyang Khyentse Wangpo as a lineage holder is: The Source of Accomplishment, the Fruit of the Two-Fold Truth—A Prayer to the Wisdom Ḍākinī Dechen Gyalmo

The full Tibetan text of that text with English translation is here.  May it be of benefit and may all beings reach the fully awakened state of the primordial-awareness great bliss queen!

  1. Hi,
My name is James and I was also at the program in Siliguri. I am interested and all of the translations that you have done. If you can send me copies of the translations that you’ve done for what we received I would be much appreciative. I’m hoping to practice as many of the teachings that we received as possible. Do you know if there are any translations related to the empowerment of the kagyé teachings that we received. I am currently half way through practicing the Netik Phurba and got the text from the people at shambhala. I am planning to practice the Chetsun Nyingtik after I finished the recitations for Vajrakilaya. I got the text that Sangye Khamdro and lama Chonam put out and have been studying the commentary they published (which is amazing). Do you know if there are translations for Hayagriva, Yamantaka, Yangdak, and Chemchok that we received? I found a text that Jamyang Khyentse Wangpo has for the Kagyé Deshek Dupa with the yidams together on the BDRC and had it printed. I would like to have it translated someday so that I can study and and practice it in an extensive way. It is about 400 pages though so it may take some time to get the resources together to have it translated for posterity. Do you know of anybody that might be interested and doing this kind of thing? I’ve been practicing for 30 years and I think that attending these teachings was karmically the best thing I’ve done in this life.

I really like your site and I will read more as I have time. Keep up the good work!!

    1. Hello James, thanks for your kind and interesting comments! Yes I will send the translations from that transmission to your email. As far as a aware there are no translations of those you asked about. Please read my email regarding translating the Jamyang Khyentse Wangpo text. Yes I agree those empowerments and transmissions were mind-blowingly amazing and rare indeed! Thanks again.
