‘Swift Dawn of the Lion’s Speech Sun’: Re-birth Supplication for 9th Khenchen Thrangu Rinpoche by 17th Gyalwang Karmapa

As an offering for 9th Khenchen Thrangu Rinpoche, vajra brothers and sisters, and his community of followers, I have created a short video with my original translation of the Swift Re-birth Supplication composed by HH 17th Gyalwang Karmapa, Ogyen Trinley Dorje. I have entitled it ‘Swift Dawn of the Lion’s Speech Sun’.

The video here, is a compilation of audio chanting of the supplication by Thrangu Monastery monks, together with the Tibetan, phonetics and English translation (click on subtitles CC), for private use. In the poetic and moving supplication, the 17th Karmapa refers to Thrangu Rinpoche by his name, Maway Senge (Lion’s Speech) and compares his amazing qualities to a turquoise mane and uproarious laughter of a lion. The 17th Karmapa explains his composition thus:

“The one with unparalleled kindness to the general and specific teachings; spiritual friend with complete perfection of the teachings; holder endowed with the three vajras; Kyabje Yongdzin Thrangu Rinpoche who has demonstrated the way of passing into the peaceful Dharmakāya. For the benefit of the teachings and beings so that the unmistaken, supreme tulku may swiftly dawn, this was composed by the worst of students, who merely bears the name Karmapa, Ogyen Trinley Dorje on June 8 2023, the Tibetan lunar year 2566.”
