THE NATURE AND IMPORTANCE OF GENUINE LOVE IN BUDDHISM

“The only thing we never get enough of is love; and the only thing we never give enough of is love.” — Henry Miller
“People carry roses,
And make promises by the hour,
My love she laughs like the flowers,
Valentines can’t buy her.” — Bob Dylan
Today, when globally people celebrate love on Valentine’s Day, as a reminder of the definition of love within Buddhist philosophy and practice, here is a 5-minute video:

The video is a brief introduction to the Buddhist view of love, attachment, and equanimity; the difference between loving non-attachment and cold detachment, and why genuine love and compassion naturally increase when there is non-attachment, but decrease when there is detachment. There are captions for the video and a transcript here.
Also, am happy to share that today ‘Tricycle: The Buddhist Review’ published a feature article about a discussion with myself on love, bliss and relationships from a Buddhist perspective.
Music? This is Love by PJ Harvey, Where is the Love? by Black-Eyed Peas, Love is Stronger than Pride by Sade, Love’s in Need of Love Today by Stevie Wonder, and Love Minus Zero by Bob Dylan…..’People carry roses, And make promises by the hour, My love she laughs like the flowers, Valentines can’t buy her.’
May all beings experience genuine love, joy, bliss and genuine happiness!
