Today is the 87th birthday of HH the 14th Dalai Lama. I offer this short post including this long-life prayer to the 14th Dalai Lama composed by the 17th Karmapa, Ogyen Trinley Dorje.

Although I am more personally connected to teachers from the Kagyu and Nyingma traditions, as I am a Ri-mey (non-sectarian) practitioner, I thus see all traditions and lineages of the genuine Dharma as being precious and rare. I have also been very fortunate to receive teachings and empowerments from the 14th Dalai Lama in person in India on several occasions.

HH the 14th Dalai Lama’s life-long service to the Buddha Dharma, to the intersection of science and Buddhist philosophy, to world peace and to the promotion of the ideals of love and compassion for all, has been hugely beneficial and influential for Tibetans and all beings on this planet. Thank you!

LONG-LIFE PRAYER FOR 14TH DALAI LAMA by 17TH KARMAPA

བྱང་ཕྱོགས་གངས་རིའི་ར་བས་བསྐོར་བའི་རྒྱུད། །

In the northern pure land of Tibet, a land of Dharma,

བོད་ཡུལ་ཆོས་ལྡན་ཞིང་གི་རྒྱལ་ཁམས་སུ། །

Encircled by a ring of snow mountain ranges,

སྐྱེ་དགུའི་ཕན་དང་བདེ་བ་མ་ལུས་པ། །

You are a treasure of compassion, the source of all

འབྱུང་བའི་ཡོན་གནས་དམ་པ་ཐུགས་རྗེའི་གཏེར། །

That benefits all beings and brings them happiness.

འཕགས་མཆོག་སྤྱན་རས་གཟིགས་དབང་མི་གཟུགས་ཅན། །

The great Noble Chenrezik in human form,

ཐུབ་བསྟན་འཛིན་པ་རྒྱ་མཚོ་ལྟ་བུ་ཡི། །

You, Tenzin Gyatso, are the crown jewel of

གཙུག་གི་རྒྱན་གྱུར་བླ་མའི་ཞབས་སྐྱེས་པད། །

The oceans of those who uphold the Sage’s teachings.

སྲིད་མཐའི་བར་དུ་གཡོ་མེད་བརྟན་གྱུར་ཅིག །

May you live unwaveringly until the end of existence.
